Description

The Wadden Sea coast near Schweiburgersiel and nature reserve Schwimmendes Moor is rich in birds. If you are lucky, you can observe many waders from the dike. But this is very dependent on the level of disturbance. The campsite in the area is full of tourists during the summer season, so this area is especially worthwhile in the off-season. But from the observation hide you can always see some waders close by. A small colony of Hættemåge breeds near the hide. The way there leads through peat areas. This "floating moor" gets really floating when the seawater reaches the moor during storms, a special feature on the coast. Some songbirds and migrants are found in the shrubs, although due to surrounding trees the concentrations of birds are not as high as on islands or exposed coastal sites. Among the birds you can encounter are Klyde, Rødben, Storspove, Bramgås, Knortegås, Gravand, Almindelig Ryle and Lille Kobbersneppe.
