Rückhaltebecken Stöhna is a wetland complex with reed beds, shallow water zones, islands, mudflats, willow bushes and grassland, as well as adjacent agricultural open land. Among the birds you can observe are depending on the season Atlingand, Skeand, Rødhovedet And, Lille Skallesluger, Pirol, Rødrygget Tornskade, Rørhøg, Havørn, Drosselrørsanger, Skægmejse, Rørspurv, Vandrikse, Gulspurv, Sydlig Nattergal, Blåhals and Savisanger.
Note that the Rückhaltebecken Stöhna isn't easily accessible for birdwatching. There are only a few good spots to watch from. And a telescope is really helpfull here.
Rückhaltebecken Stöhna is located 12 km south of Leipzig, near the town of Großdeuben. From Leipzig: Take the B2 road south towards Böhlen. Follow signs for Großdeuben and then continue towards Rückhaltebecken Stöhna.
