Open-pit mine that is no longer in operation and offers a wonderful view of the area with various habitats such as wetlands, grasslands, and forests.
The diverse landscape round the Rossbach Tagebaugrube (Open-Pit Mine) provides ideal conditions for a wide range of plant and animal species. Additionally, the area is home to several bird habitats, including reed beds, small ponds, and dense shrubbery, which offer perfect nesting and feeding grounds for many bird species, both migratory and native. Among the birds you can spot in the area are Biæder, Rørhøg, Hvepsevåge, Rød Glente, Stenpikker, Almindelig Ryle and Rødrygget Tornskade.
The Rossbach Open-Pit Mine is located 35 km west of Leipzig near the village of Rossbach. To access the area you can best drive by car and park at the marked location. Press P on the map for directions. To get to the birding location go through the path and follow it until you are at the open area to see the water. From there explore the area.
