Description

The Plothener Teiche (Plothen ponds) extend over about 75 km². The nickname 'Land of 1000 ponds' is no coincidence, because there used to be about 1,600 ponds in this area. Today there are still about 600. The Finkenmühle ponds are a small part of the area, but one of the best parts for birding and it has an observation tower. Among the birds you can see in the area are Gravand, Atlingand, Skeand, Krikand, Lille Lappedykker, Gøg, Trane, Lille Præstekrave, Svaleklire, Tinksmed, Rørhøg, Rød Glente, Rødrygget Tornskade and Gulspurv.
