Description
The Mandichosee is a barrage of the river Lech between Landsberg am Lech and Augsburg. In autumn, winter and spring the lake is rich in birds. On the lake you can find geese and different species of ducks like Krikand, Taffeland, Troldand and Rødhovedet And. Fiskeørn and Aftenfalk sometimes appear, accompanied by Lærkefalk. In the autumn Sorthalset Lappedykker can then also be observed. In winter you can see sometimes many Hvinand and Stor Skallesluger. The resting migratory birds include Sortterne, Hvidvinget Terne and a wide variety of waders. Along the western shore you can also find forest birds like woodpeckers and tits. Among the other interesting birds you can see are Gøg, Lille Præstekrave, Isfugl, Pirol, Gulspurv and Dompap.

There is a big parking on the east side of the Mandichosee. Click on the P in the map to get directions. From there you can explore the lake of walk the 9 km circular route around the lake (see the map).

In the summer the Mandichosee is a popular bathing lake. So for the best birding it is a good idea to avoid summer. If summer is your only option for a visit, go early on the day. But from the end of the bathing season the bird population on the lake increases day by day.
