Description
Kiesseen Prettin is a body of water of 112 hectare located on the Elbe River near Prettin. Characteristic are the shoals and the sandbanks, some of which lie in the middle of the water. Almost 50 breeding bird species are known on the site. The waterfowl include Knopsvane and Blishøne. The vertical bank walls are inhabited by Digesvale, and Strandskade breeds on the gravelly flat banks. Rørsanger, Kærsanger and Rørspurv live in the reed beds, while Sydlig Nattergal and Pungmejse live in the damp wood along the banks. The dry bushes are inhabited by Rødrygget Tornskade, Tornsanger and Gærdesanger, while Tårnfalk, Pirol and Skovspurv breed in the trees. Agerhøne, Bynkefugl, Toplærke and Stenpikker live on the ruderal and barren areas. The gravel lakes are also important for resting migrating waterfowl, especially Tundrasædgås, Blisgås, Taffeland, Troldand and Stor Skallesluger.
