Description
The Kemnader See is located on the southern outskirts of the city of Bochum and borders on Witten and Hattingen. The shore of the reservoir is developed with paved paths and a cycle path. The lake is traversed by the river Ruhr, in the estuary area of the river, gravel islands are formed, where mainly gulls (up to 6 species!) can be observed in winter. The lake is also a roosting place for Canadagås and Grågås in winter. In winter: regular Hvinand, Lille Skallesluger, Stor Skallesluger, Taffeland, Troldand, Krikand, Knarand and Gråand. Fløjlsand, Sortstrubet Lom, Rødstrubet Lom are occasional winter visitors, and Islom have also been observed. Isfugl can be seen regularly all year round, Digesvale in summer. Fjordterne and Sortterne are migrants, as is Fiskeørn. The black swans, which have been breeding here regularly for many years, are famous.

Accessible by car via the A43 motorway, exit Witten-Herbede. Parking spaces at the "Freiteitbad Heveney". Click on the P in the map for directions. Bus stops "Freizeitbad Heveney" and in the south "Herbede Mitte" and "Wittener Straße".
