One of two maars in Ulmen and a protected nature reserve. Many water-related birds and birds that need a reed habitat.
Jungferweiher combines several habitats. The maar with its reed beds, meadows and grassy areas, and the surrrounding woods. A path (approx. 3 km) encircles the maar, so all habitats are accessible. There is a bird viewing screen on the west side of the maar. Birds can be seen year-round and various types of ducks winter here. A campground on the western edge gives easy access to the entire area. Among the birds you can encounter are Skeand, Krikand, Taffeland, Lille Lappedykker, Toppet Lappedykker, Rørdrum, Vandrikse, Dobbeltbekkasin, Mudderklire and Isfugl.
The area is easily reached by car. There is parking close to the campground, on the western side. Click on the P in the map to get directions. A path, for walking or biking, encircles the maar.
