Description
In winter, the Hurstsee is home to a great number and variety of ducks and other waterbirds. There are good numbers (between 15 and 100+) of Gråand, Knarand, Troldand, Taffeland, Blishøne and Skarv.
Smaller groups of Krikand and Toppet Lappedykker can usually be seen scattered across the lake. Nilgås and Knopsvane are often present, as well as Sølvhejre, Fiskehejre, Isfugl and Bjergvipstjert along the fringes of the lake.
With a bit of luck, you can also see Stor Skallesluger, Pibeand, Spidsand, Atlingand (on spring migration) or even a stunning Lille Skallesluger here!
Waterbirds are the main attraction, but the trees and bushes around the lake are worth checking too. There are plenty of common woodland / garden birds, plus a good chance of seeing (or hearing) any of the following: Grønsisken, Kernebider, Dompap, Jernspurv, Rødtoppet Fuglekonge, Vindrossel and Sortspætte.
