Description
The Hemmelsdorfer See is a lake that has many different water birds, depending on the time of year. Breeding birds include Knopsvane, Knarand, Blishøne and Toppet Lappedykker. Other birds that are observerd regularly are Isfugl, Havørn, Rørhøg, Rørsanger, Drosselrørsanger, Blåhals and Skægmejse. During migration you can observe birds like Dværgmåge, Fiskeørn, Sortterne and Taffeland.
Coolest one I've seen were Lille Skallesluger in winter and I heard Pirol in the trees in summer. The boardwalk goes out into the lake and along the reeds. Also great spot for landscape photography.

The Hemmelsdorfer See is located north of Lübeck in the immediate vicinity of the Baltic Sea. The restaurant has a small parking lot, in which you can get a spot very early in the morning. . Otherwise there is a free, public parking area available a little further down the road, which I marked as the trail head. Click on a P in the map for directions.
