Description
The wet meadows of Elzwiesen are irrigated in March, August and November. End of March/ start of April and August are the best times to watch migrating birds on the flooded meadows. Common migrating spiecies are Tinksmed , Brushane , Hvidklire , Hættemåge and Atlingand. Also rarer species like Skestork , Småspove and Stor Kobbersneppe can sometimes be found on the irrigated areas.
Breeding birds are Storspove , Vibe , Sydlig Nattergal and Rødrygget Tornskade. Many Sølvhejre , Fiskehejre and Hvid Stork can be observed feeding in the area. The meadows are irrigated in steps from south to north. So most times only one part of the area is flooded. Note that the area has limited access from March to June.
