Description

The area is of great importance for breeding birds of semi-natural grasslands and wetlands. Around 80 species of breeding birds are recorded annually, including Storspove, Vibe, Hvid Stork , Lille Lappedykker, Vandrikse, Vagtel, Atlingand, Krikand, Skeand, Knarand, Lærkefalk, Gøg, Blåhals, Vestlig Sortstrubet Bynkefugl, Rørsanger (rarely Sivsanger and Drosselrørsanger) and Rødrygget Tornskade. Large flocks of Blisgås use the area during winter, and also a small group of Dværggås from a rewilding project in Sweden has established a "tradition" to visit the area for wintering, starting in 2017. In late winter, the area serves as roosting place for hundreds of Trane and during spring migration, a great variety of ducks and waders can be encountered. Occasionally, rarities show up (e.g. Purpurhejre, Hvidøjet And, Lille Rørvagtel).
