Description
Luitemaa Nature Reserve is a wetland complex on the south-western coast of Estonia that consists of diverse coastal and inland habitats including shallow sea, capes and islands, coastal meadows and reed-beds. The coastal meadows near Võiste have shallow waters that attract large amounts of dabbling ducks (Knarand, Gråand, Atlingand, Pibeand, Krikand and so on), Gravand and swans. The wide coastal meadows and lagoons are favored by geese. Most common are Grågås and Bramgås. Rarer gooses like Blisgås, Kortnæbbet Gås, Canadagås, Rødhalset Gås, Knortegås, Tundrasædgås and Sædgås are often found during migration.
The sandbanks and lagoons are great spots for wading birds. Most common breeding birds are Rødben, Stor Præstekrave, Strandskade, Hjejle, Vibe, and Brushane. During migration Sortklire, Klyde, Almindelig Ryle, Dværgryle, Temmincksryle, Islandsk Ryle, Krumnæbbet Ryle, Storspove and Småspove have been recorded.
