Description
Damming at the bottom of Nakkebølle Fjord was completed in 1866-70, resulting in 61 hectares of meadow. Restored to nature in 2003 as a freshwater lake of 85 hectares, surrounded by 25 hectares of wet meadows. Otto Helms was the chief physician at Nakkebølle Sanatorium, He described the area in 3 articles in the Danish Ornithological Society's Journal 1917-19.
Havørn breed in the area and there are good chances for Isfugl, Fiskehejre and Sølvhejre. Once you have observed the different ducks and geese in the lake (Troldand, Lille Skallesluger, Stor Skallesluger), you can take a walk through the forest and listen and look for the small birds of the forest such as Træløber, Spætmejse and Stor Flagspætte. There is also a small area of reed forest where you can see Rørsanger and Rørspurv.
