The polders of Kruibeke are only a few kilometres away of Antwerp. It's the biggest flooding area of Belgium with an area of 600 hectares.
The polders van Kruibeke is a varied landscape of mud flats and salt marshes, alder brook forest and meadows.
Ducks an geese like Bramgås , Grågås , Gravand , Skeand and Krikand but also a lot of Isfugl can be seen on the meadow and creeks all year around, roe deers are also often seen on the meadows.
in the winter there are less birds than in the rest of the year, but then you have a chance to see some more rare birds like Stor Tornskade and Pungmejse . In spring there is already more to see. Toppet Lappedykker come back to breed, but also Klyde , Brushane , Skestork and many other birds come back. Dværghejre and Nathejre are the rarer birds that breed in the polders of kruibeke.
During spring and autum migration you can see birds like the Fiskeørn and Havørn.
There is a boat from Hoboken and Hemiksem that goes to Kruibeke for free, you can go by bike and on foot on the boat. You can also go with the car to the parking. The route you see on the map is about 16 km.
