The oldest contiguous dune area on the Belgian coast between De Panne and the French border.
In 1957 "De Westhoek" was the first ever Flemish nature reserve. The reserve extends over an area of 340 to 345 hectares and is part of the largest contiguous dune area of the Flemish coast. It is sometimes called the Flemish Sahara. An impressive dune landscape, a true attraction for various birds such as Blå Kærhøg, Vindrossel, Vestlig Sortstrubet Bynkefugl, Gransanger and Tornsanger.
There are 3 lookout points in De Westhoek and multiple walking routes. The route shown on the map, visits those lookout points.
