Description

The Bird Sanctuary Loop in Turtle Bay lies in the heart of Redding, nestled inside a bend in the river that creates the maze of bywaters and peninsulas that, together with the main river channel, comprise Turtle Bay. The riparian woods house , woodpeckers, and the numerous birds that nest in the cavities they excavate. Inlets make restful wintering grounds for geese and hundreds of ducks. Herons and egrets stalk the shallows, and kingfishers plunge into pools. Out in the river’s main current Common Goldeneye dive for food. Redding’s famous Bald Eagle have fledged twenty eaglets at Turtle Bay.
