In the theme park and wildlife preserve Gatorland there is a large pond (Breeding Marsh) where many birds nest during the breeding season.
Although Gatorland is a theme park, there are very good bird watching opportunities here. The 'Breeding Marsh' is a natural nesting area for birds. The many alligators give the birds a natural protection. Observations are possible from very close up. Among the birds you can observe are Great Egret, Snowy Egret, Roseate Spoonbill, Little Blue Heron, Great Blue Heron, White Ibis and Reddish Egret.
Gatorland is located on Hwy 441 just north of the Orlando – Kissimmee line in South Orlando. The park has a large parking lot. Click on the P in the map for directions to the parking. There is a boardwalk tour to explore the breeding marsh. Admission $ 35. Opening hours: Daily 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., earlier entry and later exit possible with 'Photography Pass'.
