Description

Weymouth gets very busy during the Summer peak holiday season and is best avoided during this time. Weymouth Harbour is protected by The Nothe and Pavilion Piers, two Easterly projecting peninsulas giving excellent views of the bay. During Winter morčák prostřední, kajka mořská, turpan černý, potápka roháč and potáplice lední are the most common, smaller numbers of potáplice malá, potáplice severní, hoholka lední, potápka žlutorohá, potápka černokrká, potápka rudokrká, alkoun úzkozobý and alka malá can be expected. During Spring returning rybák severní, rybák obecný and rybák malý are usually seen. During periods of prolonged freezing conditions polák kaholka, morčák malý and morčák velký seek out the bays sheltered conditions. During Autumn Nothe Gardens can hold králíček ohnivý, lejsek černohlavý and bělořit šedý (an early morning visit is best). Autumn gales especially from the East can give seabirds such as buřňáček malý, racek malý and racek Sabinův. Weymouth Bay has an extremely large racek chechtavý roost during Winter months. From Pavilion Pier check carefully through the flock for more unusual species.
