The North York Moors National Park Visitor Centre is a good compact area for birds of open woodland and scrub, and also has superb views.
Sutton Bank has some excellent birding around it, including being one of Britain's northernmost locations to see hrdlička divoká. The bird feeders around the visitor centre buildings often attract this, as well as hrdlička zahradní, strnad obecný and tits including sýkora babka. The surrounding open woodlands and scrub hold linduška lesní and several warblers.
Best visited in the early morning or late afternoon, when there are fewer people around, but the birds are mostly used to human presence and some can be seen at the feeders all day even when the site is crowded.
Only realistically accessible by car; no nearby public transport. Cycling is possible, but involves a long, steep climb if coming from the west. The paths around the visitor centre are mostly well maintained and suitable for wheelchair users. Click on a P in the map for directions.
