Headland with cliffs and rocky beach, good for migration watch and seawatch. Here the Severn estuary ends and the Bristol Channel begins.
Lavernock Point usual seawatch species eg ústřičník velký, turpan černý, terej bílý, buřňák lední, chaluha velká, petrels, racek tříprstý, sokol stěhovavý, racek černohlavý and terns. Breeding species include pěnice hnědokřídlá, pěnice černohlavá and linduška skalní. Migrating flocks of drozd cvrčala, drozd kvíčala, konopka obecná, waders, stehlík obecný and 1,000s of holub hřivnáč. The beach is good for triassic and jurassic fossils such as ammonites, giant oysters, bones and teeth of marine reptiles. The sea here has a high tidal range and sweeps in very quickly. Check tide times (see the link below) before venturing to the shoreline and avoid overhanging cliffs.
From M4 junction 33 go south on A4232, then right at first interchange on A4060, continue past Barry and through Sully village. Sign to Lavernock on right 2 miles further on.
