Description

A disused canal turned into a visitor attraction with 14 locks and a walk of around 4 miles. Varied habitat with mixed trees, bushes, farmland and houses. Good cafe, large car park with a small charge. You can either walk towards Newport along the canal for a distance of 2 miles or towards Risca with a distance of 3 miles. The reservoir close by also attracts orlovec říční on occasions. Plenty to see at all times of the year.

Access

Chargable large car park at 14 Locks visitor centre signposted off B4591 at Rogerstone. Click on the P in the map for directions. Best to explore by walking, houses alongside the canal often put out a variety of bird feeders. Large pond by cafe attracts a variety of waterfowl.

Path alongside the locks can be slippery but everywhere else flat. 14 Locks is ideal to explore the Monmouthshire Canal towards Pontywaun or towards Cwmbran via Newport. Car Park locked at night.
