It is also a spawning ground for numerous amphibian species. Bird species that can be observed here include volavka popelavá, rákosník proužkovaný, vrabec polní, Slípka zelenonohá, lyska černá, kachna divoká, jiřička obecná, vlaštovka obecná, rorýs obecný, krahujec obecný, poštolka obecná, káně lesní, čížek lesní, strakapoud velký, sýkora modřinka, mlynařík dlouhoocasý, sýkora koňadra, červenka obecná, pěnkava obecná, kos černý, špaček obecný, vrána černá, kachnička mandarinská, morčák velký, hrdlička zahradní, holub hřivnáč, and čáp bílý.
There is a public car park next to the lake. However, travelling by bus number 912 from Zürich Bellevue or bus number 919 from the Küsnacht train station (both to the bus station Itschnach-Tägermoos) is recommended. You can also reach Schübelweiher on different walkways leading there from Küsnacht train station in ca. 40 minutes.
From February, volavka popelavá breed on an island. This allows fascinating observations of the feeding and the progress of the young birds from the walking path. Occasionally a čáp bílý may be looking for a bite in one of the meadows next to the lake.
