Description
From August to October, numerous thermal gliding birds can be observed passing through the skies around Gurten. The best time is late August and early September. Then large numbers of včelojed lesní are possible. With a bit of luck, čáp černý will also pass by. Other regular species are: káně lesní, krahujec obecný, jestřáb lesní, poštolka obecná, ostříž lesní, luňák červený, luňák hnědý, orlovec říční, moták lužní, moták pochop and čáp bílý. In later autumn large flocks of holub hřivnáč pass by. From time to time rorýs velký can be observed on food flights.

Access
The Gurten hill is located directly south of Bern city center. The best way is to take the Gurtenbahn funicular that runs from the city to the Gurten. From there it is only a 10 minutes walk to the viewing and observation point.
