Description
Ljusfors lies in the northern part of Östgötaslätten, a large Swedish plain. It is surrounded by large amounts of forest. The coastal meadows are often visited by flocks of polák chocholačka, racek bouřní, racek stříbřitý, racek mořský, racek chechtavý, hohol severní, kachna divoká, labuť velká, labuť zpěvná, lyska černá, morčák velký (some times up to 500) volavka popelavá and kormorán velký in the open not frozen parts of the lake. Smaller amounts of rarer wintering waterfowl like potápka malá, morčák prostřední, morčák malý, potápka roháč, and ledňáček říční.
In the oak meadows tits, woodpeckers, finches winter along with common winter birds like hýl obecný, brkoslav severní, čečetka zimní, and pěnkava jikavec. On the fields geese and swans can be found. husa velká, berneška velká, and husa polní have all been sighted.
During spring and autumn the coastal meadows are filled with large amounts of gulls, waders, passerine birds and terns. vodouš bahenní, vodouš rudonohý, pisík obecný, čejka chocholatá, jespák bojovný, bekasina otavní, kulík říční, and koliha velká are all observed although there are often not many wadingbirds.
During spring rains hundreds of rybák obecný and racek chechtavý could be forced on the lake. Along with smaller amounts of racek stříbřitý, racek bouřní, racek mořský and rybák dlouhoocasý.
In the spring and summer large amounts of passerine birds can be heard in the forests. Although mostly common birds can be found, also rarer birds like lejsek malý, strakapoud malý and dlask tlustozobý can be observed.
On the islands rákosník velký, racek chechtavý (large colony), polák chocholačka, kopřivka obecná, berneška bělolící, husa velká, vodouš rudonohý and kormorán velký likely breed. Common passerines on the coastal meadows are konopka žlutozobá (rare and only during the migration), konopka obecná, konipas luční, stehlík obecný, linduška luční and skřivan polní.
Many species of dabbling ducks can also be found during this season like čírka obecná, hvízdák eurasijský, kopřivka obecná, lžičák pestrý, and čírka modrá. Along the river konipas horský and ledňáček říční breed, and skorec vodní can be found.

Access
There are 2 parking spots and 2 nature reserves at the river mouth, one at each side of the river. There is a parking spot and trail at both reserves. At ljusfors naturreservat the trail goes up on a large hill which is perfect for viewing the area. Click on a P in the map for directions.
