Description

Just east of Uddevalla is the nature reserve Bäveån Nedre. Extensive industrial exploitation of the shale gravel resources during the 1960s has left behind two deep lakes, which are connected to the Bäveån river that flows through the area. Open fields are mixed with wetlands and marshes bordered by forested mountain ranges. Grazing livestock prevents overgrowth and preserves the open landscape. The area not only houses a rich breeding bird fauna, but it is also worth a visit during spring and autumn migration. The bird observation tower of Älje-Porsen is located on a perfect spot. Among the breeding birds in the area are bramborníček hnědý, strnad rákosní, linduška lesní, ťuhýk obecný, datel černý, strakapoud malý, konipas horský, bekasina otavní, vodouš kropenatý and ledňáček říční. During migration many species of geese, ducks, waders, songbirds and birds of prey can turn up. Occasional guests that have been seen in the area are čáp černý, moták stepní, luňák červený, luňák hnědý, orel skalní, chřástal polní, chřástal kropenatý, kos horský and hýl rudý.
