Description
Despite its small size La Marjal dels Moros is home to some large bird populations of several species, including seriously endangered species. One of the highlights in springtime are the flocks of different types of wading birds that come here to breed, including colonies of rybák obecný, rybák malý, ouhorlík stepní, rybák bahenní and pisila čáponohá. There is also a large breeding population of zrzohlávka rudozobá, which is increasingly rare in Valencia. The čírka úzkozobá is another endangered species that breeds here, and the Marjal marks its northernmost location in Europe. In wintertime you can see large flocks of volavka stříbřitá and lžičák pestrý, as well as spectacular gatherings of kormorán velký, and it is not uncommon to see plameňák růžový, volavka bílá or ibis hnědý. Other nice birds you can see include moták pochop, potápka malá, Slípka zelenonohá, slípka modrá and ledňáček říční.
