The Lagunas de Campotejar are one of the most important wetlands in the region of Murcia. It has a big diversity of birds and is a great place for birding.
The wetland of the Lagunas de Campotejar consists of five ancient lagoons that attract a large number of bird species. Waterfowl of great global and regional interest, many of them breeding. The area is sandwiched between agricultural plots and is therefore an oasis for the birds. Also during the winter many birds stay in the area or pass during migration. The area is declared "Ramsar site" because of its importance. Among the birds you can see here are kachnice bělohlavá, Dytík úhorní, slípka modrá, moudivláček lužní, polák velký, potápka malá, volavka rusohlavá, volavka vlasatá and rybák obecný. Access is by paved roads to a small parking lot. Click on the P in the map to get directions. The 1,5 km route to explore the area is only done on foot and is the only part of the area that is accessible. There is also a bird hide which gives a nice overview.
