Description
La Higuerilla is a great spot to look for birds of prey. In 2024 I found 3 different sup hnědý nests in the oaks on the other side of the river, although some diligent scanning is required to find them. Also easily seen in spring and summer are luňák hnědý, orlík krátkoprstý and orel nejmenší.
Be sure to check the riverbanks for fishing čáp černý. On- and around the river volavka popelavá, volavka stříbřitá and kormorán velký are present most of the time, as well as volavka červená sometimes. Pay attention to the calls of orebice rudá, which often can be found in the scrubland or even crossing the road.

Access
La Higuerilla is easily reached from Villareal de San Carlos. It is the third viewpoint (on the left side of the road) after passing the Torrejon-Tietar dam. You can park next to the viewpoint. Press P on the map for directions.
