Description
Antigua Cantera de Cuchía is a former limestone quarry. The activity in the quarry ended in 2006. Since the closure the old quarries of Cuchía have been regenerated over the years and today several lagoons and contiguous ecosystems of great natural value have been created. Monitoring carried out by SEO / BirdLife has registered 146 species of birds in the area. Among the birds you can encounter are čírka modrá, lžičák pestrý, Chřástal vodní, kavče červenozobé, rákosník velký, volavka červená, volavka rusohlavá, kvakoš noční, bramborníček černohlavý, rehek domácí, cetie jižní, cistovník rákosníkový and sedmihlásek švitořivý.

Espagnol: Con una superficie de 88 hectáreas, es un espacio minero dedicado a la explotación de piedra caliza, que al igual que en otras zonas de la costa de Cantabria ha sido invadido por el plumero (Cortaderia selloana). Desde el cierre de la cantera, Solvay ha llevado a cabo diversas labores de restauración con el objetivo de promover y conservar los valores naturales que este espacio ha ido adquiriendo con los años, en particular mediante la creación de humedales, la plantación de arbolado autóctono y la lucha contra especies invasoras. Hasta la fecha los seguimientos realizados por SEO/BirdLife han registrado en la cantera 146 especies de aves.

Access
The old quarry is located immediately south of the village of Cuchía. At the entrance you can park the car and explore the area on foot. Click on the P in the map for directions. You can visit the central lakes and wetland area or also stroll around the wider area and explore the adjacent beaches and dunes. On the map you see a long route of 8 km, but it is easy to shorten it. Note: to do the western part of this route along the beach, it has to be low tide (see the link to the tides table below).

Espagnol: La antigua cantera está ubicada inmediatamente al sur del pueblo de Cuchía. En la entrada se puede aparcar el coche y explorar la zona a pie. Haga clic en la P en el mapa para obtener direcciones. Puede visitar los lagos centrales y el área de humedales o también pasear por el área más amplia y explorar las playas y dunas adyacentes. En el mapa ves una ruta larga de 8 km, pero es fácil acortarla. Ten en cuenta que para hacer toda esta ruta, tiene que ser marea baja (ver el enlace de abajo a la tabla de mareas).
