The old beech forests and open areas on the slopes of Mount Nanos attracts interesting birds like orel skalní, strakapoud bělohřbetý and orebice horská.
The Nanos mountains are rich in fauna and flora. In the Southern and Western foothills of Nanos a 2632 ha area is protected as a landscape park. The area has old beech forest with a lot of dead wood and open terrain that is attractive for many birds. Among the birds you can encounter are orel skalní, strakapoud bělohřbetý, datel černý, krutihlav obecný, strnad viničný, strnad cvrčivý, krkavec velký, skalník zpěvný, and orebice horská. The area is also of botanical interest.
From Podnanos a 15 km winding road leads up. When you arrive in the higher area, you can choose from various well-signposted dirt roads that are passable with a normal car. You can park almost everywhere along the street.
