Situated on the right bank of the Mures river. This is an inactive quarry which is why migrating birds stop to rest and feed or even nest lately.
The water is very shallow in the northen part of the pond, and almost disappears during the hot summer weeks. Mainly waterfowl and waders to be found here. The bělořit šedý can be found hunting on the boulder mounds and abbandoned machinery. Other birds that can be observed include pisila čáponohá, tenkozobec opačný and bekasina otavní.
The quarry pond is located just outside Moresti village. Two ways coming from Tirgu Mures: a) Access from Ungheni via 125 road, once over the bridge first street to the left and all the way to the end. No designated parking. b) Access from Ungheni via 125 road, turn left before the bridge and follow the winding dirt road to the quarry bridge. Last time I checked the access through it was being blocked. Park along the river. From here you can explore the area on foot. Allow yourself two hours if you circle the pond (4 km).
BEWARE: sheep and herding dogs are present all year round. The northern path is a bit steeper and takes you closer to the sheepfold.
