Description

This spot is located 30 km north of Porto on the northern riverside of Ave estuary, where on low tide some mudflats become accessible for birds to forage. There is a nearby dock where gulls congregate. There (and looking from there to the southern river side), it's possible to spot Racek středomořský (all year around) but it particularly pays off to keep and eye on gulls during winter since it's possible to find racek žlutonohý, racek chechtavý, racek černohlavý, racek bouřní and racek mořský. On the mudflats it's easy to spot kamenáček pestrý and pisík obecný. During migration the mudflats serve as a stopover site for waders and it's possible to spot koliha velká, břehouš rudý and břehouš černoocasý. On the trees and garden spaces its possible to find kos černý, červenka obecná, stehlík obecný, pěnice černohlavá, sýkora koňadra, zvonohlík zahradní and Chocholouš obecný, to name just a few.
