Description

Kumul Lodge is probably the best birding spot in Mount Hagen - highly recommended to spend several nights. The garden feeder setup is terrific - with two Birds-of-Paradise in attendance (Ribbon-tailed Astrapia and Brown Sicklebill) plus many other species - such as honeyeaters - coming in during the day. In the surrounding gardens and montane forest there are some great species - such as Lesser Melampitta - wandering around. The lodge has two local guides who can take you further afield (offered as add-ons) - to get lots of other great birds - Blue Bird-of-Paradise, Lesser Bird-of-Paradise and Raggiana Bird-of-Paradise, and King-of-Saxony Bird-of-Paradise, plus many other highly sought after species.

Kumul Lodge is a community owned lodge, so quite reasonably priced compared to some of the high end lodges in Papua New Guinea.
