Description

In winter and early spring Vadsø harbour is one of the top places to see kajka Stellerova. From the hide and wind shelter, or from the docks, you get a good view into the harbour and an opportunity for close contact with sea-ducks. The harbour in winter is probably the best place in Varanger for a close encounter with kajka Stellerova, kajka královská and hoholka lední. Here, the three species are regularly seen from late autumn until April/May. Also, other interesting species like racek šedý and jespák mořský can be seen in the harbour. The shore is also a good spot for migrating waders. Vadsø is a good place to base yourself when visiting Varanger, and in the early morning it is higly recommend to walk along the described path. It takes just an hour or two, and you can get very close to feeding seaducks.
