Description

Several scenic cruises from Picton combine the search for dolphins with a short visit to Motuara Island. There you take a 25min walk to the summit to get beautiful views over Queen Charlotte Sound. The island is one of only a few places where you can find the endangered Tīeke (South Island Saddleback). You will also likely see Yellow-crowned Parakeet and South Island Robin, and at a bird bath take a close look at New Zealand Bellbird.

On your way to the island, you will probably see Little Penguin, Fluttering Shearwater, various shags including King Shag and Spotted Shag, Australasian Gannet, White-fronted Tern, and others. Also watch out for Pacific Reef-Heron along the shore.
