Description
The Buitenwaard is a floodplain area that is partly still used agriculturally. The area also has a tree-lined lake. In the grasslands large groups of geese are present, especially in the winter months. You can also often see large groups of koliha velká and sometimes kulík zlatý. In the summer months you can hear one of the few skřivan polní that can be seen singing in the wide area. Other species here include poštolka obecná, linduška luční, vodouš rudonohý, bramborníček černohlavý, konipas luční, konopka obecná and regularly during migration bramborníček hnědý and bělořit šedý. Also a chance to observe jestřáb lesní. Rarities that have been seen are strnad luční and chřástal polní.

Nederlands: De Buitenwaard is een uiterwaardengebied met kruidenrijk grasland en deels nog maïsvelden langs de Lek in de gemeenten Houten en Wijk bij Duurstede. Het gebied is deels nog agrarisch in gebruik. In de waard is een met bomen omzoomde plas gelegen, lokaal bekend als ‘de Heul’. In de graslanden zijn met name in het winterhalfjaar (grote) groepen ganzen aanwezig. Ook zijn hier vaak flinke groepen koliha velká te zien en soms kulík zlatý. In de zomermaanden kun je hier een van de weinige skřivan polní die in de wijde omgeving te zien is horen zingen. Andere soorten hier zijn onder meer poštolka obecná, linduška luční, vodouš rudonohý, bramborníček černohlavý, konipas luční, konopka obecná en regelmatig tijdens de trek bramborníček hnědý en bělořit šedý. Zeldzame gasten die in de hooilanden zijn gezien zijn strnad luční en chřástal polní. Let ook op de jestřáb lesní.

The area will be partly excavated in the future to create secondary channels for river widening and nature development. As a result, the bird population will probably change considerably.
