Description
The area around Malta International Airport is at its best in spring, particularly with north-west winds. On good days there can be good numbers of harriers, mostly moták pochop but also moták stepní (early-mid spring) and moták lužní (mid-late spring). The site can also be good for poštolka jižní and poštolka rudonohá (late spring). In practice any migrating species can be seen from the area since it is open, such as flocks of herons, waders, vlha pestrá and mandelík hajní. skřivánek krátkoprstý arrive in spring and remain to breed in small numbers. Other passerines include hirundines, including vlaštovka skalní, and pipits, including linduška rudokrká. In late autumn, the site is also one of the best places in Malta to see kulík zlatý and čejka chocholatá. Several rarities have been seen here over the years.
