Description
The Longarini lagoon is a wetland area of about 200 hectares located in the territory of Ispica, a few hundred meters from the coast. It is the largest of a complex of marshes that extend between Ispica and Pachino. The lagoon attracts a wide array of species throughout the year. In winter one can see plameňák růžový, several species of ducks, lyska černá, čejka chocholatá, different species of herons, moták pochop, ledňáček říční, moudivláček lužní and more. During migration, the area attracts several typical wetland species, including waders such as vodouš šedý and pisila čáponohá, as well as migratory ducks like čírka modrá and polák malý. The site is one of the last places where čírka úzkozobá breeds in Italy. Re-introduced slípka modrá can also be seen.
