Description

Lago Matese is a beautiful alpine lake situated in the Matese Regional Park. The lake covers a surface area of 5 square kilometres and is 15 metres deep at its deepest point. It stands at an elevation of 1,011 metres above sea level. The lake attracts many ducks and is a rest and feeding area for many birds during migration. Among the birds you can encounter are čírka modrá, čírka obecná, polák malý, potápka malá, hrdlička divoká, kukačka obecná, jeřáb popelavý, pisila čáponohá, vodouš šedý, vodouš bahenní, bukač velký, bukáček malý, volavka červená, volavka vlasatá, kvakoš noční, ibis hnědý, kolpík bílý, včelojed lesní, orlík krátkoprstý, orel skalní, moták pochop, luňák červený, luňák hnědý, výreček malý, dudek chocholatý, ťuhýk obecný, kavče červenozobé and krkavec velký.

Access

Lago Matese is situated in the Matese Regional Park, within the Province of Caserta. The lake can be reached by car. There is a road that runs along the entire perimeter but best option is to park and explore the banks on foot. Click on the P in the map for directions.
