A wetland area close to a harbour attracting birds all year round. Access is from a lay-by and there are two designer bird hides to view from.
The Njarðvíkurfitjar site is a very short detour to or from Keflavik International Airport. racek šedý and racek polární can be seen at close range in winter along with labuť zpěvná and husa velká. Many ducks, berneška tmavá, jespák obecný, kulík zlatý and lyskonoh úzkozobý can be seen on passage in spring and autumn.
The Njarðvíkurfitjar area can be explored on foot or from a parked vehicle. Locals feed the geese and swans in winter and they can be very approachable. Spending just a few minutes here is worthwhile particularly for photography although an hour or more would be needed to walk around to the hides and stopping on the way.
