Mt Hymettus is a great birding place, very close to the city center of Athens with several species to enjoy such as pěnice turecká, bělořit okrový, orebice čukar, káně bělochvostá and lejsek malý . Different habitats (scattered forest, olive groves, makia vegetation, rocky slopes) provide excellent habitat for a variety of birds, basically passerines.

Walk around Kesariani Monastery to see lejsek malý in fall, also breeding puštík obecný, strnad cvrčivý, pěnice bělohrdlá, králíček ohnivý, mlynařík dlouhoocasý and výreček malý. Drive up the summit in spring and explore the surrounding paths for pěnice turecká, pěnice vousatá, bělořit okrový, skalník modrý, brhlík skalní and káně bělochvostá.
