Viernheimer Heide is a heathland area with adjacent coniferous and mixed forests. It is particularly characterized by dry grassland and sandy areas in which many rare bird species can be observed, especially in spring and summer. Breeding birds include, for example, linduška lesní, lejsek černohlavý, skřivan lesní, rehek zahradní, Žluva hajní, ťuhýk obecný, kukačka obecná, krutihlav obecný, včelojed lesní, lelek lesní and dudek chocholatý.
