Description
West of Schlaitz, the Tiefkippe Schlaitz is a nature reserve consisting of a wetland habitat that emerged from a former mining pit that became too wet for agricultural use after the groundwater rose again. It is surrounded by forest patches and open fields, making this area home to a large variety of birds. Among others, you can find species such as strakapoud malý , sýkora babka , ťuhýk obecný and potentially even a orlovec říční , which has an artificial nest (although often contested by other raptors) There's a live cam linked in the links section below. There was a successful breeding attempt in 2024.
Due to the structure of the area and the accessibility, birdwatching is partly difficult.
This area is also home to European beavers.
