An artificial lake in the Lusatian Lakeland (Lausitzer Seenland) with a small bird island in the middle.
The Stoßdorfer See is a great spot to watch a larger number of racek bělohlavý on the small bird island in the middle of the lake. Beside this, you can also spot racek chechtavý, kormorán velký, zrzohlávka rudozobá, kachna divoká, kopřivka obecná, husa velká, labuť velká, husice nilská, rákosník velký, strnad rákosní and more.
In the surroundings of the lake, you'll also be able to find sedmihlásek hajní, kukačka obecná, vrána šedá, Žluva hajní, strnad obecný, pěnkava obecná, kos černý, špaček obecný, pěnice černohlavá, pěnice hnědokřídlá, pěnice pokřovní, budníček menší, slavík obecný etc.
The next village is Stöbritz, which offers a direct road to the Stoßdorfer Lake. On the Western side of the lake, there are plenty of spots for fishermen where one can park a car. On the same road, you can walk along the side of the lake and have a few spots where you have a nice view on the lake as well as the bird island.
This lake is heavily used by fishermen which also causes a bit of trouble for the birds. While the birds - and their island - are theoretically protected, some fishermen don't care much, unfortunately. For example, they illegally cut down the only tree on the island where a small kormorán velký colony was breeding. Without much success, though, because the kormorán velký still breed on the tree stumps and on the ground now. So, while the fishermen throw tons of food into the lake for all the fishes to prosper, birds trying to take some are apparently a problem.
To sum it up: when encountering the lake with an obvious interest in birds, be prepared for some "comments" about birds and how they are a problem.
