The nature reserve is part of the EU bird sanctuary "Düsterdieker Niederung"
The Recker Moor is one of the best preserved bogs in North Rhine-Westphalia. In the moorland and wet meadows lives a variety of plant and bird species, including many endangered species such as čírka modrá, bekasina otavní, břehouš černoocasý, koliha velká, konipas luční or bramborníček hnědý. The extremely rare soft peat moss (Sphagnum molle) is said to be among the nine native peat moss species.
Best arrive via Neuenkirchenerstrasse then head left for Moorstrasse. The area is good to drive around by car, by bike and there are beautiful places where you can walk. A circular walk around the area is 7 km (see the route on the map).
