Description
The Kietzer See is one of the lakes of the Altfriedländer Teiche around the village of Altfriedland. The lake has great numbers of wintering waterfowl including: husa běločelá, husa polní, polák velký, polák chocholačka and a big part of the huge numbers of jeřáb popelavý (up to 10.000) that stop here in the autumn or stay here all year round.
During spring and autumn migration you will encounter great numbers of racek chechtavý and racek malý with some racek černohlavý in between every now and then. The three tern species I have seen here so far are rybák obecný, rybák černý and rybák velkozobý.
Especially during autumn migration a lot of waders can be observed here, mostly jespák obecný, vodouš kropenatý, jespák bojovný and bekasina otavní. But I have also seen slučka malá, vodouš rudonohý, jespák malý and jespák křivozobý here.
Birds of Prey include orel mořský, moták pochop, orlovec říční and ostříž lesní. And from the surrounding forests and grasslands you can hear the calls of datel černý, strakapoud prostřední, Žluva hajní and dudek chocholatý.

Access
Getting to the Kietzer See can be a bit tricky. There is a normal path from the village of Altfriedland, where you can access two viewing platforms, but the view is obstructed by trees. To get a good view of the lake you have to drive to Quappendorf and take a path over the fields through the forest.
