Description
In winter, the Hurstsee is home to a great number and variety of ducks and other waterbirds. There are good numbers (between 15 and 100+) of kachna divoká, kopřivka obecná, polák chocholačka, polák velký, lyska černá and kormorán velký.
Smaller groups of čírka obecná and potápka roháč can usually be seen scattered across the lake. husice nilská and labuť velká are often present, as well as volavka bílá, volavka popelavá, ledňáček říční and konipas horský along the fringes of the lake.
With a bit of luck, you can also see morčák velký, hvízdák eurasijský, ostralka štíhlá, čírka modrá (on spring migration) or even a stunning morčák malý here!
Waterbirds are the main attraction, but the trees and bushes around the lake are worth checking too. There are plenty of common woodland / garden birds, plus a good chance of seeing (or hearing) any of the following: čížek lesní, dlask tlustozobý, hýl obecný, pěvuška modrá, králíček ohnivý, drozd cvrčala and datel černý.
