The Blankensee can be overlooked best from a boardwalk near the village of the same name. Close views of sýkořice vousatá and rákosník obecný, with luck also moudivláček lužní, are possible from the boardwalk (no scope needed). bukač velký is often seen flying out of the reeds near the boardwalk, especially in winter. An occupied orlovec říční nest can be seen from the boardwalk in summer.
Thousands of ducks and geese are on the lake in winter. morčák malý, morčák velký and hohol severní give good views. Others are polák velký, polák chocholačka, hvízdák eurasijský and kopřivka obecná. orel mořský is regularly seen. The most common large gull is racek bělohlavý.
May is the month for rybák černý. With luck you can get rybák bělokřídlý and rybák bahenní, too. Other good birds in spring are potápka černokrká, ostralka štíhlá and big flocks of swallows.
Walking through the village (zvonohlík zahradní, čáp bílý), make sure to have a look for ledňáček říční along the river Nieplitz.
On the walk to the tower in the north you pass the small lake Seechen (diminutive of lake "See"). Chances are good for hohol severní, potápka malá and potápka rudokrká. From the tower you overlook the wetlands of the Ungeheuerwiesen. A breeding orlovec říční, čejka chocholatá, bekasina otavní and with luck dudek chocholatý can be seen. In winter jeřáb popelavý, kulík zlatý and northern geese are typical species. ťuhýk šedý is regurlarly seen in the open winter landscape.

Access
You can get to Blankensee (Trebbin) by car, bus or bicycle. There is no useful train connection. There are two free car parks in the village of Blankensee from where it is best to walk to the observation points. The boardwalk is wheelchair-accessible.
