Description
The Baggersee Grötzingen is a former gravel pit that is now part nature reserve, part recreational (fishing, bathing zone). In winter there are usually good numbers of polák chocholačka, kopřivka obecná, čírka obecná, potápka roháč, volavka popelavá and kormorán velký. They are sometimes joined by smaller numbers or individual polák velký, hohol severní, lžičák pestrý or kachnička mandarinská.
Most years, some more uncommon or rare species appear at some point during the winter. In recent years, polák kaholka, potápka rudokrká, turpan černý and turpan hnědý have all been seen here. The woods surrounding the lake are a good place to look out for less common woodland species, such as žluna šedá, strakapoud malý and dlask tlustozobý.
